This stopped the slow boot. I still have a second splash displayed. The first is centered on the display. the second one is offset to the left, but, is no longer doubled. Also, it appears that the slow-jerky response to typing has gone away. Does 'systemctl disable systemd-networkd-wait-online.service' stop systemd from completing or, just stop waiting for services to complete? If it is just the delay in completing, I am happy with that. No need to spend time on an old system, since I am the only one complaining about it.
