Try disabling Auto-Mute in alsamixer. "I've swapped to pipewire" Pipewire is the default sound server in Ubuntu and has been for at least a couple years, so I'm not sure what you swapped. EDIT: Unfortunately, Ubuntu's bug report tool still tries to run pacmd. Ignore that error.
