After doing a small bit of testing it seems that when in R1C1 mode if you do something like R1C2=A1 it works. However, you will notice that if you click back on R1C2, it is set to =RC[-1]. If you try to type =RC[-1] by hand for R1C2 you'll again get the #NAME? error. Just thought I'd share, thanks :)
