Make sure appropriate kernel module is loaded:
sudo modprobe -v ideapad-laptop

If you want to make it load at every boot:
echo "ideapad-laptop" | sudo tee /etc/modules-load.d/ideapad-laptop.conf

Maybe other distros have this extension installed by default.
