Public bug reported: On Ubuntu 25.10 and 24.04 (both with latest updates) the tzdata package comes with an outdated /usr/share/zoneinfo/leap-seconds.list file:
# 2) Expiration date of the file given on a semi-annual basis: last June or last December # # File expires on 28 December 2025 # # Expire date in NTP timestamp: # #@ 3975868800 This will make some applications fail. The ts2phc tool from the linuxptp package will fail for example when this file is expired. The tzdata package repo contains the correct file in one of the branches: https://git.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tzdata/tree/leap- seconds.list?h=applied/ubuntu/devel&id=da875ea8c7964f0cc6427f087f3bc4b53c95270e but not all Ubuntu versions seem to have received it yet. Ubuntu 24.04: sudo apt upgrade tzdata tzdata is already the newest version (2025b-0ubuntu0.24.04.1). Ubuntu 25.10: sudo apt upgrade tzdata tzdata is already the newest version (2025b-3ubuntu1.1). ** Affects: tzdata (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2140307 Title: leap-seconds.list from tzdata is outdated and expired on 28 December 2025 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tzdata/+bug/2140307/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
