User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:147.0) Gecko/20100101
Firefox/147.0

Steps to reproduce:

Attachments are not opening anymore after updating from Ubuntu snap TB140-esr
to snap TB147. e.g. libreoffice documents docx, pptx, csv opened well before
the update.
Adapting the helper apps to "ask" for an action, or "system handler" or
removing the whole handler.json did not help.

Actual results:

Attachments are not opening anymore.

Expected results:

There is no way to get thunderbird to open the libreoffice file as was
without problems before. System handler does not work, options such as
libreoffice are not given in the selection list for handlers, "use
other" does not work either (e.g. /usr/bin/soffice) and when looking at
the Application details of such handler app then a weird path is being
used which cannot be changed (e.g.
run/usr/1000/doc/xxcdfsefdrsdrf/soffice).

It is unbearable that a mailer application in a new version fails to
open attachments, thats as if a car comes without windows, and its
entirely unacceptable that such crap is published for use without
warning!

I have similar issue but with Thunderbird 140.7.1esr-1. After installing
the new snap revision (959 -> 976) i cannot open any attachments. I have
to manually save the attachment and then open it outside of the snap
confinement... Not sure if this is related or a different issue all
together.

This version of Thunderbird does not open ANY attachments using the
"System Handler". From my now closed (duplicate) bug report:

Steps to reproduce:

Tried to open an attachment in displayed email with "System Handler"

Actual results:

Nothing. After presenting the dialog box that asks "What should
Thunderbird do with this file?" and selecting the radio box for "Open
with [System Handler (default)] and clicking "OK", the dialog box
disappears and no further action seems to take place.

To get a handle on this I disabled AppArmor via grub defaults, rebooted,
and tried again. Same result.

Next, I ran "snappy-debug" while opening attachment and got the following
seccomp entry which appeared immediately after hitting the "OK" button:
~~~
= Seccomp =
Time: Feb 13 08:32:00
Log: auid=xxxxxxxxxxx uid=xxxxxxxxxxx gid=xxxxxxxxxxx ses=3 pid=10294
comm="thunderbird" exe="/snap/snapd/25935/usr/bin/snap" sig=0 arch=c000003e
434(pidfd_open) compat=0 ip=0x56930050a26e code=0x50000
Syscall: pidfd_open
~~~
Note the Syscall: pidfd_open above

This same thing happens with attachments of different file types.

A PDF CAN be viewed if "Open in Thunderbird" is selected instead of
using the System Handler.

Expected results:

The attachment should open using the "System Handler".
