Public bug reported: Apparently tar 1.35 introduced a bug. When extracting using `--keep- newer-files`, directories get reported with "Unexpected inconsistency when making directory".
This was reported in GNU Savannah as #65838. https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/index.php?65838 A patch was created the same day. https://cgit.git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/tar.git/commit/?id=1e6ce98e3a4ef5c807458a35973af7e3503c678c But per the GNU page, tar has not released any versions since then. https://www.gnu.org/software/tar/ As best I can tell, Ubuntu has not picked up that patch. At least, I cannot find Savannah #65838 mentioned anywhere in Ubuntu's tar fork that has 1.35--Questing or Resolute. I think I've provided everything you need. I'm sure there's a slicker way to do this. I'm not used to working at this layer of open source projects. So please let me know if there's anything else you need from me. ** Affects: tar (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2142626 Title: tar 1.35 - Unexpected inconsistency when making directory To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tar/+bug/2142626/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
