After installing, all new windows did not have the extraneous black bar
and shadows appeared normally.
Attached is a screenshot showing the result. Old window on left, new
window underneath on right. Both have dark contents. What you're looking
at is the lower right-hand corner of both windows, which shows a rounded
corner.
This was a success.
