Hi, I have a strange bug with the last beta update of Thunderbird Snap
149.0b3 from 11th March and Ubuntu development version Resolute Raccoon
: some actions make the sound of a radio / Youtube stream or Videolan
file reading suddendly and completely stop !
Way to reproduce : launch Radiotray-NG and a mp3 radio stream, or VLC
with an audio or video file, or a Youtube video on Firefox. Sound is OK
and all normal.
Then launch Thunderbiord, or if already started click on the top menu
(File - Edit…), or in a compose window message make a right click, or
close the compose window, or just if a mail comes with Thunderbird
opened in background, or an agenda alert pops → all this makes the sound
stopping.
On Radiotray-NG it turns off the stream with the notification message : "Error
- pa_stream_writable_size() failed: Connection aborted" ; I have to re-launch
the radio station to get the stream with sound back.
On Youtube, the video reading continues but silently, I have to come back a few
seconds before with the timeline bar to make the sound active again.
On VLC the video / audio file continues to be read, but without sound, and here
I have to close and restart VLC to get the sound back…
With a sound and Thunderbird both active, just click on "new mail",
write it and send it → doesn't stop the sound.
I don't know if the following is related and could explain the
interaction bug, and I don't want to mix different things, but also with
the last Ubuntu 26.04 updates :
- sometimes on the top right Gnome Shell menu (Start - Internet -
Sound), the sound bar which allows to move the level of sound with the
mouse is absent, and there is no sound control, but sounds works (I just
can't adjust it)
- I have regularly error messages from Ubuntu regarding pipewire (please
see the attached screenshot)
I can make some tests to help you find what causes this bug… Thanks !
