I also tried an LPAR install (with the daily from yesterday, that has s390-tools 2.41.0-0ubuntu2 included - but maybe not 110-5 yet) and the installation was successful.
Since I cannot easily see all details on what happens during the installation, I did a manual kernel install to kernel 7.0.0 after the installation (but before having all available updates installed, which pulled in the dracut 110-5 packages). The result is this: https://pastebin.canonical.com/p/3r73SH73ZB/ So the update worked and I could reboot into 7.0.0. The weird "readlink" lines are discussed here in LP#2142878. And I see that dracut is generating the initrd: dracut: Generating /boot/initrd.img-7.0.0-5-generic But I can also see that mkinitramfs still kicks in: mkinitramfs: copy_file: binary '/usr/lib/zkey/zkey-ekmfweb.so' not found mkinitramfs: copy_file: binary '/usr/lib/zkey/zkey-kmip.so' not found mkinitramfs: copy_file: binary '/usr/lib/udev/dmsetup_env' not found I think that should not be the case.
