Thank you for your report and helping to make ubuntu better. Can you verify the issue still exists with the Hardy Alpha3 release? http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/hardy/ . You should be able to then test the new kernel via the LiveCD (I realize you installed with an alternate CD, but the kernel should be the same when using the LiveCD). General information regarding the release can also be found here: http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ .
If the issue still exists, when you boot with vga=0x317 and quiet removed, do you notice any sort of error messages flashed to the screen prior to the system hanging? After the system hangs and you have to power cycle, boot without vga=0x317 and then examine /var/log/kern.log.0 . Do you notice anything useful logged there? Also, if the issue persists can you please attach the following information per the kernel team's bug policy. Please be sure to attach each file as a separate attachment. * uname -a > uname-a.log * cat /proc/version_signature > version.log * dmesg > dmesg.log * sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log For more information regarding the kernel team bug policy, please refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies . Thanks again and we appreciate your help and feedback. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- kernel param vga=0x317 causes boot fail https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/177731 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
