Description: Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS
Release: 24.04
Summary
On my Lenovo Legion Pro 5, Kubuntu 24.04.4 enters suspend and then
immediately resumes. This happens reliably and makes suspend unusable.
Expected result
The laptop should stay suspended until I wake it.
Actual result
The laptop briefly enters suspend and then immediately resumes by
itself.
How to reproduce
Boot Kubuntu 24.04.4
Log in normally
Trigger suspend from KDE or with systemctl suspend
The machine immediately resumes
Important observations
The problem happens both from the Kubuntu live USB and from an installed
minimal Kubuntu system.
Windows 11 on the same laptop suspends normally.
The problem occurs in BIOS graphics modes Hybrid, UMA, and Discrete.
cat /sys/power/pm_wakeup_irq consistently reports 7.
grep -w "$(cat /sys/power/pm_wakeup_irq):" /proc/interrupts maps IRQ 7 to
pinctrl_amd.
With PM debug enabled, the kernel reports:
PM: Triggering wakeup from IRQ 7
GPIO 4 is active: 0x30047c00
In earlier tests it also reported GPIO 89 is active: 0x10141b00.
What I traced
ACPI SSDT ssdt6.dsl defines _AEI with GPIO 0x0004 and _EVT Case (0x04) does:
Notify (\_SB.PCI0.GPP0.PEGP, 0x81)
GPIO 89 (0x0059) maps to ACPI device \_SB.I2CA.TPDD as a wake-capable GPIO
resource.
In Linux, \_SB.I2CA.TPDD maps to ELAN06FA:00.
Unbinding ELAN06FA:00 removed GPIO 89 from the wake log, but the system still
woke and GPIO 4 remained active.
Things already tried
Disabling XHC* and GPP* wake sources in /proc/acpi/wakeup
Turning Wi-Fi and Bluetooth off
Unloading mt7925e
Booting with acpi.ec_no_wakeup=1
Testing Hybrid / UMA / Discrete graphics modes
Testing with and without the Nvidia proprietary driver
Unbinding the ELAN device i2c-ELAN06FA:00
Testing with mainline kernel 6.18.20.
Testing with Liquorix 6.19.11
Tried to test with mainline 6.19.11 but this would not install (incompatible)
None of the above fixed the problem.
This currently looks like a Ubuntu Linux suspend/resume issue on this
platform involving pinctrl_amd / IRQ 7, with GPIO 4 as the remaining
wake source even after the ELAN device is removed from the path.
I will either have to install another form of linux or return the
laptop, so I will not be able to further test this bug. It seems to be a
common problem for linux and the Lenovo Legion series.
