Public bug reported:

GNOME became unusable after a system update. The Mutter experimental feature
'scale-monitor-framebuffer' was enabled in dconf (may have been set prior to
the update). WaylandEnable=false before and after the update and workaround.
System:
- Ubuntu 24.04
- AMD Radeon RX 6600
- 3840x2160 display, 100% scaling
- GNOME on Xorg

Issue:
After a recent update (including mutter/gnome-shell), the desktop showed severe
rendering problems:
- cursor offset / duplication
- windows difficult or impossible to interact with
- parts of the screen inaccessible

The system had been working normally prior to the update. No display
settings were intentionally changed.

Investigation showed:
experimental-features=['scale-monitor-framebuffer']

Workaround:
gsettings set org.gnome.mutter experimental-features "[]"

Disabling the feature immediately restored normal behavior.

It is unclear whether this is a regression or an incompatibility with
existing configuration, but the system becomes effectively unusable
without clear indication of the cause.
