Description:
I am experiencing multiple issues related to display backlight control and
system bus communication on my Ubuntukylin system.
The primary symptoms include the inability to adjust screen brightness via GUI
or keyboard shortcuts, significant lag when attempting to change brightness,
malfunctioning of eye care/night light features, and a high volume of
DBus-related errors in system logs.
Steps to Reproduce:
Log in to the Ubuntukylin desktop environment.
Attempt to adjust screen brightness using:
Keyboard function keys (e.g., Fn + Brightness Up/Down).
System Settings > Power/Brightness slider.
Command line: echo [value] | sudo tee
/sys/class/backlight/[controller]/brightness
Observe that the brightness level does not change, changes with significant
delay, or reverts immediately.
Enable "Night Light" or any eye-care feature from Settings.
Check system logs for DBus errors: journalctl -u dbus.service -f or dmesg |
grep dbus.
Expected Behavior:
Screen brightness should adjust smoothly and immediately upon user input.
Night Light/Eye Care mode should toggle correctly and adjust color
temperature without freezing the UI.
System logs should not be flooded with DBus connection timeouts or
permission denied errors.
Actual Behavior:
Brightness Issue: The brightness slider is either missing, unresponsive,
or moves but the actual screen brightness remains unchanged.
In some cases, the UI freezes for several seconds when adjusting brightness.
Eye Care Issue: The night light feature fails to activate, or activates
but causes screen flickering/system lag.
DBus Errors: System logs show repeated errors such as:
Failed to activate service 'org.freedesktop.
