@vanvgut: reinstall is not necessary to revert to GA kernel
1. Remove Nvidia 470 driver
sudo apt purge *470*
2. Install 6.8 kernel:
sudo apt install linux-generic
3. Reboot and bring up GRUB menu (rapidly press Esc when booting) or
edit /etc/default/grub before rebooting:

boot-time
4. Choose 6.8 kernel under Advanced options in GRUB
5. Remove HWE kernels
sudo apt-get remove linux-{image,headers}-generic-hwe-'*'
sudo apt autopurge
5. Install Nvidia 470 driver
sudo apt install nvidia-driver-470
