I don't think "crash" is the right word here. There are very few crash
reports from this machine and none appear relevant to this bug. Also the
log files provided don't show any recent crashes other than one in
Google Chrome. So I don't think that's related.

The symptoms you describe are more consistent with a sudden VT switch,
as if Ctrl+Alt+F3/F4/F5... had been pressed. Which is further supported
by the mention of "the keyboard mapping is completely corrupted".

Please try a USB keyboard as a workaround as it may allow you to return
to the lost desktop as simply as Ctrl+Alt+F2 or Ctrl+Alt+F1.
