Apparently, it is not specific to 6.17.0-29 After I did `sudo apt purge linux-image-6.17.0-29-generic linux- headers-6.17.0-29-generic linux-image-unsigned-6.17.0-29-generic`, it ran dkms to rebuild the nvidia drivers and now the same issue happens with 6.17.0-20 and 6.17.0-14 (the two previous kernels I had installed).
