Public bug reported:

The rsync will fail with error

    rsync invalid file mode 00 for path/to/filename [receiver]
    rsync error: protocol incompatibility (code 2) at flist.c(874)
[receiver=3.2.7]

if rsync is started with

    rsync rsync --delete --delete-missing-args --files-from=...

and the file listed in files-from file does no longer exist locally but
does exist on the remote target server. Instead of deleting the file
remotely (the expected result) rsync fails with prorocol error and exit
code 2.

The underlying issue is caused by error in security patch as documented
here:

https://github.com/RsyncProject/rsync/issues/910

The fix should be backported to Ubuntu 24.04 LTS which currently has
this bug.
