I don't think so.

There is no network problem (except that my firewall does not allow NTP 
protocol).
And there is also no harddisk problem (except that Linux cannot access the 
Windows partitions that exist on the same harddisk).

The "3 minute freeze" only happens if I boot the laptop WITHOUT an
external screen attached, and then connect an external screen to the
HDMI port of the laptop, and then reboot the laptop WITH the external
screen attached.

Obviously, the operating system remembers the screen configuration of the 
PREVIOUS boot.
If it recognizes that the screen configuration of the CURRENT boot is different 
from the screen configuration of the PREVIOUS boot, and the screen 
configuration has changed in such a way that an external screen was added, it 
freezes for 3 minutes.

The "3 minute freeze" does NOT happen if I boot with the same screen 
configuration twice.
And it does NOT happen if I REMOVED an external screen since the previous boot.
It only happens if I ADDED an external screen since the previous boot.
