Public bug reported:

System:

Kubuntu 24.04.4 LTS

HP ProBook 450 G8

Intel Tiger Lake-LP

Intel Tiger Lake Smart Sound Technology Audio Controller

NVIDIA GeForce MX450

Secure Boot enabled

Working kernel:

6.8.0-117-generic

Problematic kernel:

6.8.0-124-generic

Description:

Kernel 6.8.0-117 boots normally and reaches the desktop within seconds.

Kernel 6.8.0-124 appears to hang during boot. Investigation shows that
the kernel actually reaches userspace and starts systemd, but boot
stalls while waiting for udev device initialization.

Relevant logs from the 6.8.0-124 boot:

systemd-udev-settle.service waits for the full timeout period.

SDDM waits on systemd-udev-settle.service.

The only device repeatedly reported as delayed is the Tiger Lake SOF/HDA
audio subsystem.

Relevant messages:

skl_hda_dsp_generic: Worker processing SEQNUM=5607 is taking a long time

and later:

snd_hda_codec_realtek ... autoconfig for ALC236

On 6.8.0-117 the same audio stack initializes successfully within
approximately one second and no "taking a long time" messages appear.

Installed firmware:
firmware-sof-signed 2023.12.1-1ubuntu1.11

Current audio device:
sof-hda-dsp (Tiger Lake SOF audio)

This appears to be a regression introduced between 6.8.0-117 and
6.8.0-124 affecting SOF audio initialization on this hardware.
