Public bug reported:
SUMMARY:
The Bluetooth adapter integrated in a Realtek RTL8822BE WiFi+BT combo
(USB ID 0bda:b00b, "Realtek Bluetooth 4.2 Adapter") is no longer
detected after upgrading from kernel 7.0.0-15-generic to
7.0.0-22-generic on Ubuntu 26.04 LTS.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1. Boot 7.0.0-15-generic
2. `lsusb` shows: Bus 001 Device 005: ID 0bda:b00b Realtek Semiconductor
Corp. Realtek Bluetooth 4.2 Adapter
3. `rfkill list` shows hci0: Bluetooth (unblocked)
4. Bluetooth works normally (pairing, GNOME settings, etc.)
5. Reboot into 7.0.0-22-generic
6. `lsusb` no longer lists the Bluetooth device at all (only the WiFi
PCI device, RTL8822BE, kernel driver rtw88_8822be, is present and
working normally)
7. `rfkill list` shows no Bluetooth entry at all
8. `dmesg | grep -i blue` / `dmesg | grep -i hci` show nothing
9. Manually running `modprobe btusb` and `modprobe btrtl` loads
without error, but no hci0 device appears and no USB device is
enumerated for the Bluetooth controller.
EXPECTED:
Bluetooth controller should be enumerated on USB and hci0 should be
available, as it is on 7.0.0-15-generic.
ACTUAL:
The internal USB Bluetooth device for this combo card disappears
entirely from lsusb under 7.0.0-22-generic. No errors in dmesg related
to USB enumeration failure for this device were found.
WORKAROUND:
Booting 7.0.0-15-generic restores Bluetooth functionality completely,
with no other configuration changes. This strongly suggests a kernel
regression introduced between 7.0.0-15 and 7.0.0-22 affecting USB
enumeration/power management for this internal Bluetooth controller
(possibly related to USB autosuspend, ACPI power resource handling,
or a regression in btusb/btrtl probing).
HARDWARE:
- HP Pavilion Notebook 15-bc5xxx
- Network controller: Realtek RTL8822BE 802.11ac 2x2 WiFi + Bluetooth
4.2 Combo Adapter (rtw88_8822be driver, WiFi works fine on both
kernels)
- Bluetooth USB ID: 0bda:b00b
