AFAICS gscan2pdf would need to be fixed to ever work again and to do so
get a new upload.

Gladly as you shown there are no reverse depends and Debian has removed
it from testing as well.

Can we thereby not keep it simpler and just remove it from stonking
entirely?

Once there is an upload adapting it to the new imagemagick (or fixing
the test) it would be auto-synced and if its tests then work it can
migrate, otherwise it would be stuck in -proposed.
