Public bug reported:
Please add support for the Elan Microelectronics fingerprint reader with USB
ID
04f3:0c98 (product string "ELAN:ARM-M4"). It is built into a Lenovo Yoga 7
2-in-1 16AKP10 (2025 AMD model). The reader is detected on the USB bus but is
not recognised by libfprint, so fprintd reports no available devices.
This appears to be another member of the same Elan match-on-chip ARM-M4 family
for which support has already been added one PID at a time, e.g.:
- 04F3:0C88 (LP #1989314)
- 04F3:0C8C (LP #2058013)
- 04F3:0C99 (LP #2031872)
- 04F3:0CA8 (LP #2147084, added in libfprint
1:1.94.7+tod1-0ubuntu5~24.04.7)
04F3:0C98 sits within that range and is currently missing. Please register
this
product ID with the Elan driver as was done for the devices above.
Environment:
- Distribution: Linux Mint 22.3 (Ubuntu 24.04 "noble" base)
- Kernel: 6.17.0-35-generic
- libfprint-2-2: 1:1.94.7+tod1-0ubuntu5~24.04.7
- libfprint-2-tod1: 1:1.94.7+tod1-0ubuntu5~24.04.7
- fprintd: 1.94.3-1
USB device descriptor (lsusb -d 04f3:0c98):
idVendor 0x04f3 Elan Microelectronics Corp.
idProduct 0x0c98 ELAN:ARM-M4
bcdDevice 6.37
iManufacturer ELAN
iProduct ELAN:ARM-M4
bDeviceClass 0 (defined at interface level)
Interface 0: bInterfaceClass 255 (Vendor Specific), 8 endpoints
Full `lsusb -v -d 04f3:0c98` output is attached.
The reader works under Windows. I'm happy to test patched builds or capture
additional USB/protocol traces if that helps.
