Public bug reported:

After upgrading linux-modules-nvidia-595-open from kernel 7.0.0-22 to 7.0.0-27
via sudo apt upgrade on Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, display output through the NVIDIA RTX
5070's physical ports stopped working and causes a critical display conflict.
1) Ubuntu release:

Ubuntu 26.04 LTS (Resolute) - kernel 7.0.0-27-generic
2) Package version:

nvidia-driver-595-open 595.71.05-0ubuntu0.26.04.1

linux-modules-nvidia-595-open-7.0.0-27-generic 7.0.0-27.27
3) Expected behaviour:

RTX 5070 display output works after kernel module upgrade as it did on
7.0.0-22. Connecting a display to the RTX 5070 should not affect the AMD iGPU
output.
4) What happened instead:

When a display cable is connected to any RTX 5070 output port (HDMI or
DisplayPort), both the RTX 5070 display AND the motherboard AMD iGPU display
lose signal simultaneously. Unplugging the cable from the RTX 5070 does not
restore the iGPU display — the screen remains black and the system requires a
remote reboot via SSH to recover. This makes testing and debugging impossible
without risking complete loss of display output. Currently using only the AMD
iGPU output with no cable connected to the RTX 5070 as the only stable
workaround.
Error found in journalctl:
nvidia-powerd[2192]: ERROR! Running on an unsupported system (PCI device Id:
0x2f04)
Steps to reproduce:

Ubuntu 26.04, kernel 7.0.0-22, RTX 5070, driver 595.71.05 — display working via
RTX 5070 output
Run sudo apt upgrade — upgrades linux-modules-nvidia-595-open from 7.0.0-22 to
7.0.0-27
Reboot into kernel 7.0.0-27
Connect display cable to RTX 5070 output
Both RTX 5070 and AMD iGPU displays lose signal — system requires SSH reboot to
recover

Hardware:

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 (PCI ID: 0x2f04)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D (with Radeon iGPU)
Motherboard: Gigabyte X870E AORUS ELITE WIFI7

Workaround:

Keep display cable only in motherboard AMD iGPU output. Do not connect
any cable to RTX 5070 ports. Booting into kernel 7.0.0-22 restores RTX
5070 display output:

linux-modules-nvidia-595-open-7.0.0-22-generic 7.0.0-22.22 (working)
linux-modules-nvidia-595-open-7.0.0-27-generic 7.0.0-27.27 (broken)

** Affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-595 (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
