in stonking and later versions. I understand that broken --xml=yes is
not an issue when using Valgrind's default human-readable output (which
is probably why it went unnoticed), but it is an issue for any
application that uses the machine-readable XML output format.

I would really appreciate it if you (or anyone else) could fix
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/valgrind/+bug/2152584 in
resolute as well, for example by applying a patch, which will likely be
trivial.
