Upstream status: both fixes are now merged to `xorg/xserver` master -- MR !2244 (commit `dbcd36b`, DGA function-pointer defaults on runtime- hotplugged GPU screens) and MR !2245 (commit `9babe7e7`, NULL-guard the udev fallback bus-id subsystem lookup). So the "fixed upstream first" requirement is met.
Plan, in order: 1. Development release (Stonking): debdiff attached (`2:21.1.22-1ubuntu4`), cherry-picking both commits onto the current `1ubuntu3`. 2. Noble and Resolute SRUs to follow. I'll hold those debdiffs until the in-flight `boot_display` uploads (noble `1.8` / resolute `1.2`, LP #2136140) reach `-updates`, so mine bases on them rather than reverting them -- they touch the same file (`xf86platformBus.c`) and my patches apply cleanly on top. @superm1 -- since you're already carrying the `boot_display` SRU in this exact file, would you be willing to sponsor these? Happy to adjust anything. I don't have the rights to nominate the noble/resolute series myself, so those tasks will need adding by someone who does. The two changes are tiny and low-risk (the DGA one mirrors what the boot path already does; the udev one is a NULL guard that can only prevent a crash).
