Problem:
The internal speakers work normally, but the 3.5 mm headphone jack is detected
unreliably.
Hot-plugging headphones usually does not change the ALSA "Headphone Jack"
control.
Sometimes the headphones are detected only after 5-10 insertion attempts, after
a delay, or after opening the GNOME sound settings.
Headphones are reliably detected when:
1. The system boots with headphones already connected.
2. The laptop is suspended and resumed while headphones are connected.
The problem also occurs in the Ubuntu 26.04 live USB environment, so it
is reproducible without custom PipeWire or WirePlumber configuration.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Boot Ubuntu without headphones connected.
2. Log in.
3. Run: alsactl monitor
4. Insert and remove headphones several times.
5. Observe that no Headphone Jack events are generated.
6. Check the ALSA control:
amixer -c 1 contents | grep -A3 -B1 "Headphone Jack"
7. The value remains "off" even when headphones are connected.
Expected result:
The "Headphone Jack" ALSA control changes to "on" immediately after insertion,
and audio switches to the headphones.
Actual result:
No ALSA jack event is generated and the control remains "off".
Additional observations:
- Booting with headphones already inserted works.
- Suspend/resume with headphones inserted usually makes them work.
- Different headphones and headsets behave the same way.
- PipeWire is not the root cause because alsactl monitor receives no jack
events.
- snd_hda_intel jackpoll_ms=500 did not help and prevented the suspend/resume
workaround from working.
- trigger_sense=yes did not restore jack detection.
- /proc/asound/card1/codec#0 contains only 17 lines and reports:
Invalid AFG subtree
- The kernel log contains:
snd_hda_codec_alc269 hdaudioC1D0: ALC236: picked fixup for PCI SSID 103c:0000
snd_hda_codec_alc269 hdaudioC1D0: hp_outs=1 (0x21/0x0/0x0/0x0/0x0)
- alsactl monitor generates no Headphone Jack events during repeated
insertion/removal.
