Public bug reported:

After the last ubuntu update which requires restart, I restarted my laptop and
noticed 2 new bugs:
1. When closing the laptop lid, the laptop sleeps as usual, but it doesn't wake
up when I reopen it. I tried clicking the power button. Capslock works so it
seems like a display issue. I tried switching terminals (ctrl+alt+f3/f7) which
did nothing. The only solution is to press power until shutdown.
2. Brightness control keys shows the brightness slide bar but do not affect
brightness. I can only control brightness when in the bios screen.

I tried changing grub options to fix the brightness issue without
success.

I suspect both issues are X server related.
