Public bug reported:

I am using a 2013 Apple iMac with:

Broadcom BCM4360 802.11ac Dual Band Wireless Network Adapter
PCI ID: 14e4:43a0

The Broadcom STA driver works correctly with:

Kernel:
6.14.0-37-generic

Package:
broadcom-sta-dkms 6.30.223.271-23ubuntu1.2

The same DKMS module fails to build with:

Kernel:
7.0.0-28-generic

During package installation/configuration:

Building initial module for 7.0.0-28-generic
Error! Bad return status for module build on kernel: 7.0.0-28-generic (x86_64)

The module builds successfully on 6.14.0-37-generic:

dkms status:
broadcom-sta/6.30.223.271, 6.14.0-37-generic, x86_64: installed

Hardware:

lspci:
02:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Inc. and subsidiaries BCM4360 802.11ac
Dual Band Wireless Network Adapter (rev 03)

Subsystem:
Apple Inc. BCM4360 802.11ac Dual Band Wireless Network Adapter

Current working driver:

Kernel driver in use: wl

Distribution:
Linux Mint XFCE based on Ubuntu 24.04

Expected:
broadcom-sta-dkms should build successfully on newer supported kernels.

Actual:
The DKMS module fails to compile on kernel 7.0.0-28 but works on kernel
6.14.0-37.

The failure prevents automatic kernel upgrades, because the Broadcom STA
DKMS package cannot be configured for the newer kernel.
