Additional testing: I have noticed a difference depending on how system updates are installed.
When I install system updates through KDE Discover, I am offered a "Reboot and Install Updates" option. Rebooting using this option consistently results in the black screen during boot. I have since installed system updates several times using my command- line update function instead. This runs apt update && apt full-upgrade -y directly in the running system. In this case, there is no "Reboot and Install Updates" step. The updates are installed while the system is running, and I then perform a normal manual reboot. So far, these normal reboots after command-line updates have completed successfully, without the black screen. This suggests that the issue may be related to the offline update / "Reboot and Install Updates" process used by Discover, rather than simply the presence of system package updates themselves. I have not yet confirmed this as the root cause, but the difference has been reproducible in my testing. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2161093 Title: Black screen after boot with kernel 7.0.0-28-generic on AMD Radeon RX 580 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2161093/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
