Confirming this issue on an additional system:
- GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT (XFX Speedster MERC 319), Navi 21 / Sienna
Cichlid, PCI 1002:73bf
- OS: Linux Mint 22.3 "Zena" (Ubuntu 24.04 noble base), Cinnamon, X11
- Monitor: single HDMI-connected display (Asus VE248)
- Kernels tested: 6.8.0-38-generic through 6.8.0-138-generic, and
7.0.0-29-generic (HWE) — symptom identical on ALL of these, confirming
it is not kernel-version dependent, only firmware-version dependent
- Symptom matches exactly: persistent vertical corruption/stripes
confined to roughly the right half of the screen, mouse cursor renders
correctly even inside the corrupted region
- dmesg showed repeated "[drm] Wait for DMUB auto-load failed: 3" and,
during one incident, a full GPU hang/recovery sequence: SMU
unresponsive for ~20s, "ring gfx_0.0.0 timeout", soft reset failed,
followed by a successful MODE1 (hardware) reset ("GPU reset(1)
succeeded!"), with REG_WAIT timeouts in mpc2_assert_idle_mpcc,
hubp2_set_blank_regs, and optc1_wait_for_state during the reset
- Downgrading to linux-firmware=20240318.git3b128b60-0ubuntu2.26 and
rebuilding initramfs resolved the issue; currently held at .26 while
monitoring for stability over several days.
Happy to provide full dmesg/journalctl logs if useful.
