One big problem in depending on gcc-multilib is that it conflicts with a lot of toolchain packages, which will force package manager like apt to uninstall almost everything to satisfy requirements of gcc-multilib.
This issue still exists in Ubuntu 24.04.1 and likely will require revamping dependencies of few packages.
