## Problem
On Ubuntu 26.04 using GNOME Shell 50.1 in the Ubuntu GNOME session,
installed applications are missing from the GNOME application grid even
though their desktop entries are valid and marked as visible.
For example, Firefox and App Center can be launched normally and their
desktop entries are detected by the desktop environment, but they do not
appear in the application grid.
## Expected behaviour
Installed applications with valid visible desktop entries should appear
in the GNOME application grid and be accessible from the normal
Applications view.
## Actual behaviour
Several installed applications do not appear in the application grid.
The applications themselves are installed and functional. Firefox and
App Center can be launched independently.
## Steps to reproduce
1. Log into Ubuntu 26.04 using the normal Ubuntu GNOME session.
2. Press Super and open the Applications grid.
3. Observe that installed applications such as Firefox and App Center are
missing from the grid.
4. Verify that the applications are installed and can be launched through other
means.
5. Rebuild/reset the GNOME app-picker layout and reboot.
6. The applications still do not appear in the grid.
## Troubleshooting already performed
* Confirmed GNOME Shell version is 50.1.
* Confirmed the system is running the Ubuntu GNOME session.
* Confirmed Firefox has a valid desktop entry.
* Confirmed App Center has a valid desktop entry.
* Both desktop entries report `should_show=True`.
* Neither desktop entry has `Hidden=True` or `NoDisplay=True`.
* Confirmed `/var/lib/snapd/desktop` is included in the desktop application
search path.
* Confirmed Snap desktop integration is installed and running.
* Rebuilt the `org.gnome.shell app-picker-layout` using the applications
detected by the desktop environment.
* Confirmed the rebuilt layout persists after reboot.
* The applications still do not appear in the actual GNOME application grid.
This makes the problem appear to be related to GNOME Shell's
application-grid handling rather than the applications themselves.
