I am attaching the complete unattended-upgrades and dpkg logs from the affected system.
In particular, unattended-upgrades.log contains the repeated: "WARNING SIGTERM received, will stop" messages at approximately 3-second intervals during the failed shutdown. The dpkg log also shows that package operations continued during this period and that the transaction did not complete cleanly.
