It took me a while, as I had to upgrade my Windows desktop to a Radeon RX 7800 XT and learn a bit about WSL to do this test, but I've attached a log comparing before and after the SRU. Note that the packages shipped in Resolute is insufficient to run ROCm on WSL regardless. There is an additional user space library required that is not currently packaged. In some versions of ROCm on WSL, that is an alternative ROCm runtime, while other versions use librocdxg. In either case, resolute doesn't contain that component.
Ultimately, this SRU just fixes rocminfo so that *if you had the appropriate user space runtime component* then I believe it would succeed. In my testing using just the packages available in resolute, this update merely changes the error from: ``` $ rocminfo WSL environment detected. hsa api call failure at: ./rocminfo.cc:1324 Call returned HSA_STATUS_ERROR_OUT_OF_RESOURCES: The runtime failed to allocate the necessary resources. This error may also occur when the core runtime library needs to spawn threads or create internal OS-specific events. ``` ``` $ rocminfo WSL environment detected. hsa_init Failed, possibly no supported GPU devices ``` The actual stack recommended in the AMD upstream WSL docs is ROCm 6.4 and supports jammy as the latest Ubuntu release. rocminfo successfully returned my device information on this machine when I tested with my RX 7800 XT on jammy using the vendor repositories, so clearly this *could* work with the right user space libraries. However, for the purpose of this SRU, I think the important point to take from my test is that there is no WSL regression for the software shipped in resolute for this hardware configuration.
