I can reproduce a very similar issue on Ubuntu 24.04.5 LTS with a MediaTek Bluetooth adapter (USB ID 0e8d:e025).
**System information:** - Ubuntu: 24.04.5 LTS - Kernel: 6.17.0-1032-oem - Bluetooth adapter: MediaTek 0e8d:e025 - Driver: btusb - BlueZ setting: AutoEnable=true **Steps to reproduce:** 1. Open GNOME Settings → Bluetooth. 2. Turn Bluetooth off. 3. Wait approximately 2 seconds. **Actual result:** The Bluetooth adapter disappears from the system, is re-enumerated over USB, and Bluetooth turns back on automatically. **Expected result:** Bluetooth should remain disabled until explicitly re-enabled. **Diagnostic findings:** Monitoring with `bluetoothctl -m` shows that hci0 is removed and subsequently registered again, eventually returning to `Powered: yes`. Monitoring with `udevadm monitor` confirms that the MediaTek USB device at path 1-5.2 is physically removed and re-enumerated (USB remove → add), followed by the btusb driver binding again. The rfkill event log shows: ``` idx 5: DELETE, soft=1 idx 6: ADD, soft=0 idx 6: CHANGE, soft=1 idx 6: CHANGE, soft=0 ``` The newly registered adapter ends up with: ``` Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no Powered: yes ``` **Important additional finding:** Running `bluetoothctl power off` directly works correctly. Bluetooth remains disabled. This suggests that the issue is associated with the GNOME/rfkill disabling sequence and the subsequent USB re-enumeration, rather than ordinary Bluetooth controller power-off. The system also exposes a separate `tpacpi_bluetooth_sw` rfkill interface, which remains soft-blocked. Could this report be reconsidered/reopened? The issue remains reproducible on Ubuntu 24.04.5 LTS with kernel 6.17.0-1032-oem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2159589 Title: Bluetooth turns back on automatically after being turned off in GNOME To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2159589/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
