I was able to reproduce the issue on Ubuntu 24.04, hexchat 2.16.2-1build2. This happened by chance, while I was connected to many channels within libera.chat and a few channels on OFTC and a third server. I don't see hexchat now anywhere near 100%, but I'm not sure if it had been 100% transiently.
The thing that triggered the "blank" lines until the mouse rolled over them was invoking !canstatus in the channel #techrss on irc.libera.chat . In the resulting multi-line output, most of it was blank until I rolled over. I wanted to test this in Ubuntu Next, but I was unable to boot from the ISO (kernel panic -- tried to kill init). I could wait until one of the betas comes out and I have more time, and try to run hexchat. Is the fact that hexchat development upstream has been stopped restrict the Ubuntu devs' ability to apply this patch? I did come across this fork in #hexchat, which may be of interest: https://zoitechat.org/ Although if it is as simple as testing the new patch and applying it to Ubuntu's packaged version, can the ubuntu maintainers do that? **If any developer has a specific thing I could try (e.g., apply the patch, report back), I would prioritize it.** Otherwise I can't realistically boot into Ubuntu Next and daily drive it, waiting for Hexchat to produce a rare error. On the other hand, I have a spare laptop, and it has a weaker CPU. So if the bug is CPU-related, I could try running hexchat on that and see if I can reproduce the issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2024405 Title: Hexchat UI elements go black, reappear when scrolled To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hexchat/+bug/2024405/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
