Public bug reported:

bcron 0.11-25 fails to build from source in stonking.

Regressing architectures (0.11-23 built, 0.11-25 fails): amd64, amd64v3,
arm64, armhf, ppc64el, s390x. (riscv64 built on 2026-06-14, before the
current build chroot; the other arches were retried on 2026-09-24.)

Build logs:

  - amd64v3:

  - armhf:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bcron/0.11-25/+build/32970425/+files/buildlog_ubuntu-stonking-armhf.bcron_0.11-25_BUILDING.txt.gz
  - ppc64el:

  - s390x:

Diagnosis (deterministic matcher): testsuite-failure — debian/rules
override_dh_auto_test.

Root cause: the test tests/spool-filter runs `wc` as a crontab filter
with the crontab file on stdin. In the stonking build chroot `wc` is
provided by rust-coreutils (coreutils-from-uutils 2ubuntu1,
rust-coreutils 0.12.0-1ubuntu1). It pads each count to width 7, while GNU
wc derives the width from st_size for regular-file stdin, which is what the
test expects:

  Test tests/spool-filter failed:
  @@ -1,2 +1,2 @@
   29:KCrontab successfully written,
  - 1 7 21
  + 1 7 21
  57 tests executed, 1 failures
  make[1]: *** [debian/rules:25: override_dh_auto_test] Error 1

This is a whitespace mismatch in the test's expected output, not a
functional bcron bug. Debian builds with GNU coreutils, so the failure is
Ubuntu-specific; 0.11-25 is already the latest Debian version (nothing to
sync), and upstream (https://untroubled.org/bcron/archive) has no public
tracker or fix.

Possible fixes: normalise whitespace in the test (e.g. pipe the filter
output through `tr -s ' '`), or make the comparison whitespace-insensitive.
Separately, the wc-on-stdin width difference is a GNU-compatibility issue
that could be reported against rust-coreutils.
