Still seeing this on Ubuntu 26.04: root gets a plain prompt with TERM=xterm-256color, while a normal user gets colours.
I checked base-files 14ubuntu6.2 — share/dot.bashrc still only matches xterm-color. Could someone please review and apply the patch in comment #2? It's been here since 2020.
