Public bug reported:
After the security update 3.31.0+dfsg-0ubuntu0.26.04.1 ->
3.32.0+dfsg-0ubuntu0.26.04.1
(Ubuntu 26.04 resolute), copying to the clipboard during an RDP session drops
the
entire connection.
Setup:
- Client: Remmina 1.4.43+dfsg-0ubuntu0.26.04.2 with libfreerdp3-3
3.32.0+dfsg-0ubuntu0.26.04.1
- Server: gnome-remote-desktop 50.2-0ubuntu0.1 (remote login mode) with
libfreerdp-server3-3 3.32.0+dfsg-0ubuntu0.26.04.1
- Both machines updated to 3.32.0 on 2026-09-29/30; the problem started right
after.
gnome-remote-desktop itself was not updated (last change 2026-08-23).
Steps to reproduce:
1. Connect with Remmina (RDP, clipboard sync enabled) to a gnome-remote-desktop
server.
2. Copy content to the clipboard.
3. The session is disconnected.
Client log (Remmina):
[ERROR][com.freerdp.channels.addin] - [channel_client_post_message]:
cliprdr_plugin_process_received: read error
[ERROR][com.freerdp.channels.cliprdr.client] -
[cliprdr_virtual_channel_open_event_ex]: failed with error 1359
[ERROR][com.freerdp.core] - [checkChannelErrorEvent]:
cliprdr_virtual_channel_open_event_ex reported an error. Error was 1359
[ERROR][com.freerdp.core] - [freerdp_check_event_handles]:
checkChannelErrorEvent() failed - 0
(followed by a failed auto-reconnect: RDSTLS_RESULT_LOGON_FAILURE)
Server log (gnome-remote-desktop-daemon):
[ERROR][com.freerdp.core.peer] - [transport_read_layer]:
ERRCONNECT_CONNECT_TRANSPORT_FAILED [0x0002000D]
[RDP] Network or intentional disconnect, stopping session
... Connection reset by peer
No crash of gnome-shell or gnome-remote-desktop on the server side.
Upstream: FreeRDP 3.32.1 fixes a regression from the 3.32.0 hardening that
rejected
fragmented static-channel PDUs, which broke copy and paste of larger clipboard
content.
This matches the symptom (cliprdr is a static virtual channel). Please consider
backporting that fix, as was done for the 3.30.0 clipboard regression in
USN-8561-2.
Workaround: disabling clipboard synchronization in the Remmina profile.
