Thanks for the update and the information on the workaround.

I wanted to confirm that I tested this on another Ubuntu 24.04 system
where I was still experiencing the problem. The currently installed and
held FreeRDP/WinPR packages are:

libfreerdp-client3-3 3.32.0+dfsg-0ubuntu0.24.04.1
libfreerdp-server3-3 3.32.0+dfsg-0ubuntu0.24.04.1
libfreerdp3-3 3.32.0+dfsg-0ubuntu0.24.04.1
libwinpr3-3 3.32.0+dfsg-0ubuntu0.24.04.1

GNOME Remote Desktop was running and listening normally on TCP/3389, but
the Microsoft RDP client on my Mac could not establish the session.

I created /etc/FreeRDP/FreeRDP/HKLM.reg with:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\FreeRDP\FreeRDP\Server]
"ExtSecurity"=dword:00000000

After restarting the GNOME Remote Desktop user service, RDP from the Mac
immediately began working again.

So I can confirm that disabling ExtSecurity is an effective workaround
for the issue on my system while remaining on the Ubuntu 3.32.0
packages.

Thanks for your help tracking this down and for getting the fixes into
FreeRDP.

Tim

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better.
A lot of regressions caused by 3.42.0 security update are being addressed as
part of https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/freerdp3/3.32.1+dfsg-1

If you are able to,  please verify against that version and let us know
if it's unaddressed.

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, amd64.
  GNOME Remote Desktop 46.3.
RDP from macOS worked normally with FreeRDP/WinPR 3.31.
On Sept. 29, all four packages were automatically upgraded from
3.31.0+dfsg-0ubuntu0.24.04.1 to 3.32.0+dfsg-0ubuntu0.24.04.1.
Immediately afterward macOS RDP connections failed.
GRD received the connection but logged:
  [ERROR][com.freerdp.core.transport] - [transport_read_layer]: BIO_read
retries exceeded
  [ERROR][com.freerdp.core.peer] - [transport_read_layer]:
ERRCONNECT_CONNECT_TRANSPORT_FAILED [0x0002000D]
[RDP] Network or intentional disconnect, stopping session
  Downgraded all four packages—libwinpr3-3, libfreerdp3-3,
libfreerdp-server3-3, and libfreerdp-client3-3—back to 3.31.
Without changing the Mac client or the GNOME Remote Desktop configuration,
RDP immediately began working again.
