Public bug reported:
fortran-julienne 4.1.0-1 fails to build in stonking on amd64, amd64v3,
arm64, armhf, ppc64el and s390x with a gfortran internal compiler error
during LTO streaming:
+ gfortran -c ././src/julienne/julienne_multi_image_s.F90 -cpp -g -O2 ...
-flto=auto -ffat-lto-objects ...
during IPA pass: modref
././src/julienne/julienne_multi_image_s.F90:26:15: internal compiler error:
in write_symbol, at lto-streamer-out.cc:3086

LTO is the trigger:
* riscv64, where Ubuntu doesn't enable LTO (only -O2), builds fine.
* Debian (no LTO by default) builds 4.1.0-1 on all architectures.
* Tested in a stonking container (gfortran-15 15.3.0-4ubuntu1, fortran-fpm
0.13.0-6ubuntu2, dh-fortran 0.85ubuntu3, debugedit 1:5.3-4ubuntu1,
libfortran-assert-dev 3.1.2-1): the build with default flags reproduces the ICE
exactly. With DEB_BUILD_MAINT_OPTIONS=optimize=-lto it builds and ships
libjulienne-gnu.so.0, libjulienne-flang.so.0 and libjulienne-lcc.so.0 (plus the
static libraries). The remaining flang-22 "Compilation failed" lines in that
build also appear in Debian's successful build, so they're expected.
The file is a Fortran 2008 submodule "module procedure" body
(julienne_multi_image_s.F90). This is a GCC 15 bug (LTO streamer,
write_symbol), not a fortran-julienne bug, and should be forwarded to
GCC upstream.
Fix for stonking: add fortran-julienne to lto-disabled-list. Once it
builds, fortran-caffeine (dependency wait on libfortran-julienne-dev)
unblocks too.
Part of unblocking the fortran-lang stack, LP: #2169679.
