Public bug reported:
After upgrading Lubuntu 24.04 LTS to 26.04.1 LTS via do-release-upgrade,
VMware guest integration stopped working in a VMware Workstation VM.
Both features worked correctly on 24.04 before the upgrade.
Symptoms:
- Guest display does not resize when the VMware Workstation window is resized
("Autofit Guest" enabled)
- Copy & paste between host and guest no longer works
Environment:
- Guest: Lubuntu 26.04.1 LTS (upgraded from 24.04 LTS), LXQt, X11 session
- Host: VMware Workstation [version] on [Windows version]
- Virtual hardware: VMware SVGA, vmwgfx kernel module loaded
- open-vm-tools / open-vm-tools-desktop installed (reinstalled after upgrade,
no change)
Observations:
- vmtoolsd system service and "vmtoolsd -n vmusr" user instance are both running
- Restarting the vmusr instance has no effect
- xrandr was missing after the upgrade (x11-xserver-utils apparently removed as
obsolete); reinstalling x11-xserver-utils and xserver-xorg-video-vmware did not
fix the issue
Expected: guest resolution follows the VMware window size and clipboard
sharing works, as on 24.04.
