[ Impact ]
The migraphx-cpu-tests autopkgtest for migraphx 10.0-0ubuntu1 fails on
stonking/amd64 for every trigger (migraphx, rocm-hipamd, rocr-runtime,
glibc, migration-reference/0), which blocks migration of migraphx and
of the packages that trigger its tests.
[ Analysis ]
debian/tests/run-tests runs each binary from migraphx-tests in turn.
test_msgpack is killed by the kernel while running
test_msgpack_large_binary1:

As a result the script exits with status 1:
migraphx-gpu-tests SKIP exit status 77 and marked as skippable
migraphx-cpu-tests FAIL non-zero exit status 1
No other test fails.
test_msgpack_large_binary1 and test_msgpack_binary2 allocate a
binary buffer of 4 GiB + 2 bytes. test_msgpack_large_binary1 also
holds the encoded copy of that buffer, so it needs more than 8 GiB of
memory at peak. The autopkgtest testbeds don't have that much memory
(the attached logs show limits.memory=4GiB; even 8 GiB isn't enough),
so the test is OOM-killed every time.
[ Fix ]
Configure the build with -DMIGRAPHX_DISABLE_LARGE_BUFFER_TESTS=ON.
This is upstream's own CMake switch for leaving these large-buffer
tests out of the build. The library itself is unchanged; only the
contents of the migraphx-tests package change.
[ Test Plan ]
Run the migraphx autopkgtests on stonking/amd64 and check that
migraphx-cpu-tests passes, i.e. test_msgpack completes without being
killed.
[ Where problems could occur ]
The two large-buffer msgpack tests are no longer built. Upstream's
guard block also covers two small empty-binary tests
(test_msgpack_binary_empty and test_msgpack_binary_roundtrip_empty), so
those are dropped from the test package as well. As a result, msgpack
serialization of buffers larger than 4 GiB and of empty binaries is no
longer tested in autopkgtest.
