Public bug reported:
Summary: Teclast F5R (N4100) HTIX5288 I2C HID touchpad stops working
after suspend in GNOME on Wayland; device remains visible in kernel,
works in Xorg.
Hardware:
- Device: Teclast F5R tablet/laptop
- CPU: Intel Celeron N4100
- Touchpad: HTIX5288 (I2C HID), vendor ID 0x0911, product ID 0x5288
OS:
- Ubuntu 26.10
- Kernel: 7.3.0-9-generic
- Desktop: GNOME on Wayland (default)
Steps to reproduce:
1. Boot into Ubuntu on Wayland.
2. Confirm touchpad works.
3. Suspend system (via menu or close lid).
4. Resume from suspend.
5. Touchpad does not respond.
6. GNOME session must be restarted (logout/login) to restore touchpad.
Expected result:
Touchpad should resume working automatically after suspend without needing a
session restart.
Actual result:
After resume, touchpad is not usable in GNOME. It remains visible in the kernel
and in /proc/bus/input/devices, but is not recognized by the Wayland compositor
(mutter/libinput).
Evidence:
- Kernel sees the device:
input: HTIX5288:00 0911:5288 Mouse as ...
input: HTIX5288:00 0911:5288 Touchpad as ...
hid-multitouch 0018:0911:5288.0001: input,hidraw0: I2C HID v1.00 Mouse
[HTIX5288:00 0911:5288]
- After suspend, xinput list shows only XWayland virtual devices; no HTIX5288
touchpad entry (expected in Wayland, confirms the compositor lost the device).
- gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.peripherals.touchpad send-events returns
'enabled' — GNOME is not disabling the touchpad intentionally.
- In "Ubuntu on Xorg" session, touchpad works reliably after suspend.
Additional info:
- No HID/I2C initialization errors in dmesg.
- The issue is specific to Wayland/GNOME session resume; kernel-level
suspend/resume appears to be functioning correctly.
- This strongly suggests a compositor/libinput re-enumeration issue after
resume.
Reproducibility:
Consistently reproducible on multiple suspend/resume cycles.
