Public bug reported:

**Title:** Dell Latitude 5590 suspend/resume regression in Ubuntu kernel
7.0.0-38 (6.17.0-42 works)

**System**
- Hardware: Dell Latitude 5590
- BIOS: Dell 1.41.0
- Distribution: Linux Mint 22.3 Cinnamon (Ubuntu 24.04 base)
- Graphics: Intel Kaby Lake integrated graphics, i915 driver, PCI device
8086:5917
- Secure Boot: Disabled

**Problem**

The laptop fails to resume from suspend when running kernel
7.0.0-38-generic. The machine becomes unresponsive, sometimes with the
Caps Lock LED flashing repeatedly. Recovery requires a forced power-off.

The problem occurs with both `deep` (S3) and `s2idle` suspend modes.

**Kernel comparison**

- 6.14.0-37-generic: Suspend/resume succeeds.
- 6.17.0-42-generic: Suspend/resume succeeds.
- 7.0.0-38-generic: Suspend/resume fails.

The BIOS was updated from 1.38.0 to 1.41.0 without resolving the problem
in kernel 7.0.

**Power-management diagnostics under kernel 7.0**

- `pm_test=devices`: Successful. System returns automatically after five
seconds.
- `pm_test=platform`: System hangs; Caps Lock LED flashes approximately twice
per second.
- Normal suspend: Fails to resume.

The last persistent journal entry before one failure was:

`PM: suspend entry (deep)`

Another failure ended at:

`PM: suspend entry (s2idle)`

**Additional observations**

Kernel 7.0 logs repeated Intel i915 graphics messages, including:

- `CPU pipe A FIFO underrun`
- `CPU pipe B FIFO underrun`
- `DPLL 1 not locked`
- `i915_hotplug_work_func` exceeding the workqueue reporting threshold

These errors appear during startup as well, so their relationship to the
suspend failure is unconfirmed.

**Expected behavior**

The system should successfully suspend and resume as it does under
kernels 6.14.0-37 and 6.17.0-42.

**Actual behavior**

Under kernel 7.0.0-38, the system hangs and requires a forced shutdown.

**Workaround**

Boot kernel 6.17.0-42-generic, which successfully resumes from suspend.

**Request**

Please investigate a possible regression affecting ACPI/platform suspend
or associated device power management between the 6.17 and 7.0 kernel
series.

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
