Public bug reported:
Nautilus displays file timestamps one hour behind system time after
Alberta timezone change
Description:
Following Alberta's transition to year-round UTC−6 on November 1, 2026,
GNOME Files (Nautilus) displays file creation, access, and modification
timestamps one hour earlier than the actual timestamps.
The problem occurs on two separate computers running Ubuntu 26.04.
Expected behaviour:
A file created at 15:30:05 should display that timestamp in Nautilus.
Actual behaviour:
Nautilus displays 14:30:05, while the terminal reports 15:30:05.
System information:
Ubuntu 26.04
GNOME Shell 50.1
Nautilus 50.2.2
GLib 2.88.0
tzdata 2026e
Timezone: America/Edmonton
System UTC offset: −0600
Diagnostic results:
timedatectl confirms the correct UTC−6 offset.
stat displays the correct file timestamps.
Python and GLib both correctly interpret the timestamps.
Restarting Nautilus does not resolve the discrepancy.
Launching Nautilus with TZ=America/Edmonton still produces incorrect
timestamps.
Launching Nautilus with TZ=Etc/GMT+6 displays the correct timestamps.
The issue occurs with files created by both the terminal and
LibreOffice.
The issue also occurs on a second Ubuntu 26.04 computer after multiple
reboots.
Conclusion:
The problem appears to involve timezone interpretation within Nautilus
or a component it uses. The underlying filesystem timestamps are
correct.
No permanent workaround has been applied.
