Update: The issue is actively recurring and severely impacting day-to-day hardware stability. Even after reverting to older kernel versions (such as 7.0.0-38-generic) and applying manual BIOS fan curves (Smart Fan 6) following a cold shutdown, the system intermittently falls back into the Embedded Controller (EC) failsafe routine, forcing all fans back up to maximum speed (100% duty cycle).
Because the kernel lacks native support for the ITE Super I/O chips (0x8696 and 0x8883) on this X870 platform, userspace sensors continuously output N/A, preventing any reliable thermal management or fan control from the OS. Manual BIOS overrides are insufficient as a permanent fix since the EC eventually trips or loses synchronization. Given that modern hardware like the Gigabyte X870 AORUS ELITE WIFI7 and Ryzen 7 9700X relies entirely on proper hwmon/ITE integration, native driver support or an upstream fix for these specific Super I/O IDs is urgently needed. Please let us know if additional debugging or testing with a specific patch is required. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2173636 Title: ITE Super I/O chip (IDs 0x8696 / 0x8883) unsupported on Gigabyte X870 AORUS ELITE WIFI7, causing sensor read-out failures and erratic maximum fan speed behavior To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2173636/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
