with 25 loads onloads the hard drive should survive for about three years which is much more reasonable then 7 months. my machine at least has a much higher count per hour. in that case its just a matter of noisy processes on Linux which keep waking up the hard drive and in that case there is no easy fix. i will be much more interested with people with windows machine which do not have load unload cycles at all. btw: too bad no official Ubuntu developers are showing any interest in this. this bug is rated critical yet no work is done on him.
