Hello fokker,
the issue you have is more of an issue with your monitor. The "out of
range" is displayed directly by you monitor, not by ubuntu. If you have
problems installing Ubuntu with the Desktop cd, please use the
Alternatte cd providing you with a text based installer which is the
official fall back for issues like this. You will find support for this
in a forum of your language. You can find the alternate cd on the place
where you downloaded the Desktop cd.
